MCLS Code of Ethics

MCLS seeks to contribute to law, justice and the common good.

Its specific objective is to create a forum for open, honest, respectful, constructive and enjoyable debate between experts working in the area of private enforcement of competition law, including judges, regulatory officials, academics and private practitioners.

The integrity of participation is essential.

MCLS is not to be used as an opportunity to seek to press for particular substantive positions in ongoing cases, which can make participants uncomfortable and limit open debate. Participants should disclose their participation in particular ongoing cases where it is relevant to their comments or interventions.La integridad en el modo de participar en el Seminario es esencial.

Assistance at MCLS is by invitation.

Invitees are chosen for their knowledge and interest in the area of private enforcement of competition law. They are invited to participate actively in sessions and prepare those sessions with the help of materials provided. Time will be allotted during the seminar to permit proper discussion by all participants.

MCLS will be run under Chatham House Rules.

Accordingly, comments and positions expressed at the seminar may be reported outside the event but it is not permitted to name the relevant participant who was the author of the relevant comment or position.

MCLS is a non-profit event

MCLS is organized by Hitchings Legal Services, S.L.P. under the guidance of the Steering Committee. Proceeds go to covering costs. Any financial or other support is disclosed on the MCLS Website. Any shortfall will be covered by Hitchings Legal Services, S.L.P. Any superavit will be used to contribute to the specific objectives of MCLS.

In keeping with the nature of the event, no speakers or assistants are paid for participating in MCLS.

The costs for attending of non-professional speakers and public officials (travel and one night’s board) are covered by the organization in order to foment their participation and achieve the goals of MCLS.

Recognition and acceptance.

Registration in the event signifies acknowledgement and acceptance of this code.
